Macfortheblind.com Audio Demonstration Series, New Voices in Lion

Audio demonstrations are something new for me, but I am going to try my hand at putting some material up here. For starters, I through together a quick demonstration of some of the new voices in Lion. This is far from “professional” stuff, but I believe it will still be useful to some. As always, comments are welcome. Macfortheblind New Voices in Lion Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind.com Audio Demonstration Series, The Activities Feature in Lion

Once again, I try my hand at another quick demo. In this case, I attempt to demonstrate the basics for how the new Activities feature works in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Keep in mind that this is not an in depth demonstration, but, instead, more of an overview of how Activities are set up. Note, if it is not clear in the demo, one can set up multiple Activities for a single application, and, in fact, can configure as many Activities as one desires. Macfortheblind.com Audio Demonstration Series, Non-Contiguous Selections in Lion

Macfortheblind.com Audio Demonstration Series, Burning a Mac OS X Lion DVD

Here is a quick demonstration of how to make a Lion DVD from your install application purchased through the App Store. This will create a bootable DVD, and the process is quite simple. Macfortheblind Burning a Mac OS X Lion DVD Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind.com Audio Demonstration Series, The Resume Feature in Lion

There has been a lot of discussion about how the Resume feature in Lion works with individual application windows and the resumption of applications left open after restarting the system. I try to briefly touch on the aspects of the Resume feature and how one can go about disabling it if it is desired either for application windows or the system itself. Another Good Demonstration Podcast Covering Lion

Here is a very nicely done demonstration on Lion from the SeroTalk Tech Chat Podcasts. You want to select Tech chat 110 for the podcast on Lion. Note that it also discusses the new Mac Mini and Mac Book Airs models released at the same time Lion was Launched on July 20, 2011. What’s New and Cool in Lion for Mac

A Very Useful Demo on the New View in Mail for OS X Lion

I have Mark Taylor’s Candle Shore blog in the Links page of the site, but in Episode 98, he does a very nice demo of the new view in Mail in Lion and how the conversations feature can be customized. This is a link to Mark’s podcast page, and you want to select episode 98. the Candle Shore blog

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Mail in OS X Lion

This is, by no means, a comprehensive demonstration of VoiceOver in Apple Mail in OS X Lion. It just covers some basic aspects, and mainly demonstrates the difference between the classic view and the new standard view available in Mail. Nevertheless, it should give a pretty good idea of how the VoiceOver user can approach the latest version of Mail. Macfortheblind Mail in OS X Lion Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with Signatures in Mail

Here is a brief demonstration about working with signatures in Apple Mail. I talk about creating a new signature, selecting a default signature for an account and choosing a signature manually within a mail message. This demo was done using OS X Lion, but note that the techniques demonstrated also apply to Snow Leopard as well. Macfortheblind Working with Signatures in Mail Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with Safari

This is a demonstration that is a bit longer than I usually present them. I try to briefly cover the various ways one can browse using VoiceOver on the Mac in Safari with the keyboard and the multi-touch, glass trackpad. It is, by no means, a comprehensive demonstration and there are some things I could not get into a great deal of detail covering. However, hopefully, it will still be helpful to both Lion users and those running Snow Leopard as well. Macfortheblind Working With Safari Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with the Version History in Mac OS Lion

This demonstration discusses and demonstrates some aspects of working with the version history in documents as part of the “modern document model” Apple now uses in OS X Lion. Locking and unlocking documents and reverting to previously saved versions are topics I also highlight. Macfortheblind Working with the Version History in Mac OS Lion Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with iChat

This is, by no means, a comprehensive demonstration of every feature of iChat. However, I try to cover what I feel are the most important areas, such as setting up audio and speech notifications, the message window and notable items in the menus. I also discuss other iChat preferences one should be aware of, and show how to start a text chat with an online contact. Please note that the information in this demo is not Lion specific by any means, and that Snow Leopard and, I believe, even Leopard users will benefit from it. Macfortheblind Working with iChat Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with iCal in Mac OS X Lion

Here are some iCal basics. I try to cover the most important parts of iCal preferences, the interface of iCal, the calendar views and setting up a new event. It is, by no means, and in depth demonstration, but, hopefully, it should get you started and on your way to using iCal effectively. Macfortheblind Working with iCal in OS X Lion Demo.mp3

A Demonstration of iOS 5

Courtesy of Sarah Alawami, and with her kind permission, here is a link to her demonstration on iOS 5 from her The Fun Filled Podcast. You can listen to it here.

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with iTunes in Mac OS X

This is a demonstration of some iTunes basics and a brief overview of the program. Without a doubt, iTunes is a very sophisticated application that would take a several part demonstration to truly cover. So, I really only give a brief look at it and try to cover the interface and some items of interest in the menus and in iTunes Preferences. However, this should be enough to help some folks out. Macfortheblind Working With iTunes in Mac OS X Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series, Working with Address Book in Mac OS X

This is a brief demonstration using Address Book on the Mac. I cover the interface and some basic tasks, such as creating a group and renaming a group, as well as viewing contact info. Additionally, I mention some Address Book preferences of interest. Macfortheblind Working with Address Book Demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series (Episode 14), Working with Siri Demo

This is a brief demonstration using the Siri Assistant on the iPhone 4S. I go over some basics in checking the time/weather to setting reminders, checking ones schedule and sending text messages. I also discuss a bug that crops up from time to time with VoiceOver and Siri and an easy work around that corrects the problem in most instances. Working with Siri Demo.MP3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series (Episode 15, Working with DocuScan Plus

Yes, I know the “plan” was to continue with the iPhone and iOS, but in messing with the Piezo recording software package, I ended up recording this demonstration of using DocuScan Plus, an OCR application from Serotek. I go over the basics and how to save a scanned document. DocuScan Plus demo.mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series (Episode 18) Working with the Finder, Part 1

Here is the first of 3 demonstrations I have done on the Finder. Note that this was done in Mountain Lion, but will apply to Lion and, at least, Snow Leopard. Also, this is only a basic demonstration, but, hopefully, it will help folks understand how the Finder works and to be able to navigate it. Macfortheblind Working with Finder Demo (Part 1).mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series (Episode 19) Working with the Finder, Part 2

Here is the second installment of my 3 part demonstration on the Finder. I go further into the world of Finder and will follow up with a 3rd part soon. Macfortheblind Working with Finder Demo (Part 2).mp3

Macfortheblind Audio Demonstration Series (Episode 20) Working with the Finder, Part 3

Here is the final part of my Finder demonstration. Hopefully, with all 3 parts, you will be able to have a better handle on how Finder looks and works, how to navigate your folder and file structure and how to copy and move Finder items.
